At the post deliveries' celebrations by the management, the IVF unit and the lucky parents of the babies the coordinator of the center Dr Lukman Omokanye said the infertility in the parents before the arrival of the babies had been on for a period of six to ten years.
Believing that the IVF till date remained the greatest medical fertility breakthrough in human history, Omokanye, a Clinician said the UITH has become a major leader of the scientific knowledge in the world due to the highest rates of successes recorded under the procedure.
He thanked the management of the hospital ably led by the Chief Medical Director (CMD ), Professor A.W. O. Olatinwo for given the unit enough room to operate and put smiles on the faces of the couples hitherto stigmatized as infertile.
Mrs Yusuf Rasheedat a proud mother of a set of twins via the procedure was said to have passed through laparoscopic surgeries on two occasions to no avail before the suvvessful IVF which clicked at clicked at the very first trial.
The story of the second parent, a father, remained baffling but he pleaded anonymity. He is an Abuja medical doctor but suffered infertility for a period of five years before embracing the IVF option.
For Omokanye, between eight and twelve percent of couples world over are naturally infertile noting that gone were the days when such natural happenings were linked with spiritual attacks of witches and wizards.
He said he and other members of the unit have seen their assignment as "a divine call", but with a special appeal to private sector to come to the aid of the section adding, "health is very essential but at the same time can't be solely bankrolled by the government. "
Speaking at the event the CMD represented by the Director of Administration (D. A. ) of the hospital, Mr David Odaibo said the UITH would continually uphold programs that would put pleasures on the people.
