THE Chief Medical Director of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) Professor A. D. Yussuf has x-rayed his mission for the hospital in a tripartite way describing it as the one that would cater for the patients, staff and all the visitors on official assignments to the hospital.
This was his refrain while receiving in audience members of accreditation teams from both West African College of Medicine and Health Records' Officers of Nigeria.
Yussuf assured the accreditation teams of his resolves to upscale all the departments of the hospital and make them models for others in the country.
For the hospital's boss, 'we have taken all your comments in good faith. My mission as the CMD is to take this place higher than I met it. And for all our visitors we will always make this place a home away from home.
The erudite Professor of Behavioural Science while speaking on the essence of ICT in modern health sector disclosed his intention to turn the hospital into a smaller comportment via provision of effective network system just as he said he would make training and re training of staff his priority.
Already the e-library components of the hospital have been updated with plans to extend same facilities to other sectors of the hospital.
Yussuf added, 'when else you come for another round of accreditation, you will meet upgraded departments not only in anaesthesia or health records but the entire hospital as an entity.'
He encapsulated the endeavours of the accreditation teams thus: 'we are a strong institution receiving strong accreditation teams. This is a season of accreditation and we are ready for it.'
Earlier, the accreditation team leader of the Anaesthesia Dr S. Oladapo described the department at the UITH as one of the best in West African sub region. In the same vein, the team leader of the Health Records, Hon. Jibril Ibrahim Sokoto, praised the existing harmonious working relationship among the staff of all the schools of the hospital.

Vision: To transform University of llorin Teaching Hospital to the hub quality and standard healthcare service delivery in Africa by the year 2019, a player in the delivery of quality healthcarc service globally and expand the frontiers of the hospital in healthcare delivery by the year 2021.

Mission: This is to be attained through provision of quality and standard healthcare delivery that is second to none in Africa by the year 2019, and one of the global healthcare service institutions by the year 2021 regardless of clients statuses or creeds through quality researches, training (capacity building, manpower development and staff motivation) and services. Creation of industrial harmony in the hospital among health unions, stakeholders, as well as bolstering of staff dedication to duty; Providing high degrees of service satisfaction to our clients as well as job satisfaction to staff; Partnering locally, nationally and internationally with reputable organisations (through PPP); Attracting funds from entrepreneurs and stakeholders of high repute; Operation of clients-centred administration where the clients are KINGS; And the deployment of state-of-the art, hi-tech equipments for the management (diagnoses, treatments & follow-ups) of clients, to create a WORLD CLASS HEALTH INSTITUTION.


The University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) belongs to the second generation of Teaching Hospitals which were established by law on the 2nd May 1980. It took off in July1980 and started operation using as its temporary site, the then General Hospital and Maternity Hospital Ilorin which were owned by the Kwara State Government. The permanent site of the hospital was declared opened by His Excellency, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in May 2007 while complete movement took place in April 2010.
